Today’s question: LT and RL (real life)- do you have friends in real life that you met through LibraryThing? Have you attended any LT meet-ups in your area? Would you be open to attending meet-ups or is LT strictly an online thing for you?
I don’t have any real life friends that I’ve met through LT, though I do have a few real life friends who use LT. I haven’t attended any LT meet-ups, but then again, I’ve only been using LT for a few months, and I don’t think there have been any in my area in that time. I’d be open to attending a meet-up; I think it would be fun to meet people in real life, to see their mannerisms and how they talk, and to find out how accurate my mental images of them are. It’s always nice to have faces for the names, you know?
My busy Book Lady schedule might make it difficult to attend something, though….and honestly, once I get home from work, I usually just want to walk the dog, cook dinner with my hubby, and curl up on the couch for some quality time with the TiVo and then a good book. Since I work in a bookstore, I’m surrounded by reading fanatics and have plenty people to share book talk with whenever I want, not to mention that my best friends are all big readers who like to trade books and share recommendations as well. Without these luxuries, I’d be much more likely to put effort into meeting some of my online friends.

Wow – you’re so lucky to have such a book-centered existence! It must be great to be surrounded by people with a similar interest in bookish things.
Yes, I am very lucky…and your comment sparked a neologism for me: “bibliocentric.” The perfect definition of my life, and I wouldn’t have it any other wayl
Your job does sound awesome. I’d love to be surrounded by books and bookish people all day long. Plus, having best friends who read a lot is something I’ve never experienced – all my RL friends watch TV for relaxation instead and rarely read.
Ah, I’ve always thought that working in a bookstore or a library might be a bit of heaven. It sounds like you don’t need to meet up with us crazy folk.
I would love to have a job centered around books, getting recommendations or just chatting with other book-people is so interesting.
I am in the same boat, minus the bookstore job, the tivo, the husband, the..
okay.. so really i am just the same on not really into a meet up.
I never thought about not having enough time! But I’ll certainly be busy once classes get started!
Wow working in a bookstore would be awesome!
Especially when those people forget that they know where you live, right?
